About Kisen
Thank you for always using Shobido main store.
In this article, we would like to introduce Shobido Honten's original brand "Kisen".
In addition to running the company, Shozo Kamachi, the previous chairman of Shobido Honten, brought back to Japan many of the old Imari items that had been exported to Europe during the Edo period. In the 1970s, he traveled all over Europe, including East Germany, which had no diplomatic relations at the time, looking for famous items.
When Ko-Imari returned home, it was exhibited at exhibitions all over the country, and its timeless traditional beauty captivated many people, sparking the Ko-Imari boom of the time.
In this way, the aspiration of ``beautiful beyond the times'' was born within the Shobido main store.
Shozo worked hard to develop products with the idea of ``bringing the traditional beauty of Ko-Imari into modern living,'' and his own brand ``Kisen'' was born.
The word "Kisen" can be seen for the first time in the product catalog in 1978 (Showa 53).
The name ``Kisen'' comes from the haiku name of Ritsu Kamachi, the founder of Shobido Honten, and the bamboo leaf design comes from the haiku name of his adoptive father, ``Taketei.''
Bamboo has also been considered an auspicious plant since ancient times due to its straight, vigorous growth, and our hope is that ``Kisen'' will become a vibrant brand that produces ``people, goods, and money.'' .
The ``Gokunishiki Kinsai Ko-Imari Style'' released in 1987 (Showa 62), followed by the ``Rinpa Ko-Imari Style'' were well received, and the Ko-Imari Style became synonymous with the Kisen brand.
Today, while preserving those series, we are creating products that inherit this DNA, such as modernly arranged vessels and vessels for everyday use.
