momoco bear [Hitomi Nakajima/ring tether]

This is a hand-painted work by the artist Hitomi Nakajima.

This is an adorable work with a patchwork-like composition of stuffed animals and a smiling expression.
The patterns are painted with great skill in the traditional Nabeshima style.
If you look closely, you can see that the ring on the lower right hand side has a playful bear hidden inside.
Its tail is shaped like a peach, as it comes from the word "momoco".


The background patterns on the face and feet are drawn using a traditional technique called ``Sumi Hajiki''.
First, the ground pattern is drawn with ink, and when dyeing is applied on top of it, the ink burns away in the kiln.
Only the background pattern stands out in white. It's a very elaborate technique.

While making full use of the techniques of ink splashing, dyeing, overglaze painting, gold coloring, and Arita ware,
It's a nice addition to modern interiors.
